PROJECT 03 / INDESIGN DOCUMENTATION
In this project, we will explore the capabilities of Adobe In-
Design. It is impossible to explore everything InDesign has to
offer in a single project, much like many of the other projects
we explore in this class.
We will be focusing on the basics of InDesign, type formatting,
layout, image placement, etc, in order to create a booklet
that documents our projects in this course.
This project runs until the last day of class, November 30th,
as we will explore 1-2 mini-projects along the way that will
need to be included in the booklet.
We will be printing these booklets in the Digital Media Center
(I will cover the cost of printing). Once the prints are completed,
they will be handed back to you in order to finish the
project by designing, printing, and attaching a custom cover
for your booklet (you will each pay for cover material and
printing). We will discuss cover design processes at a later
date (the cover design will be an extension of a mini-project).
There are two final deadlines for this project:
1. Digital turn-in - NOV 30
2. Physical booklet turn-in - TBD DURING FINAL EXAM DAYS
The turning in of this completed booklet, designed, printed,
and with the cover attached, will function as your final exam.

PROJECT-03 BRIEF
PROJECT 02 / FRAME X FRAME
In this project, we will be using a combination of programs. First, we will use Adobe Illustrator to completely redesign the characters from individual frames of a music video (one per student). Next, we will replace the background with custom photography and Adobe Photoshop. Finally, the newly designed frames will be run through a machine learning program called Ebsynth in order to completely redesign the original music video with our new designs (I will handle this part).
Each of you will pick one frame from the music video “Perfect”
by Tyler, The Creator, featuring Kali Uchis and Austin Feinstein
(I will provide the selected frames).
You have creative freedom to change the image, but nothing can
be left the same. You must use some adaptation of the polygon
art (low poly) method in Illustrator, and custom photography for the
background (we will discuss these methods in class).
The challenge is to create an overall cohesive and compelling
image, using the two programs.
REQUIREMENTS
COLOR MODE: RGB (VERY IMPORTANT!)
IMAGE SIZE / ARTBOARD SIZE: 1920 PX X 1080 PX
*PX = PIXELS
SAVE YOUR WORKING FILES (BOTH IN PHOTOSHOP AND ILLUSTRATOR) AS FOLLOWS: FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME_CLIP#
WE WILL WORK PRIMARILY IN ILLUSTRATOR, AND CONSOLIDATE THE FINAL OUTPUTS IN PHOTOSHOP LATER IN THE PROJECT TO ADD THE BACKGROUND AND TO HELP WITH FINAL TOUCHES.

PROJECT 01 / BUILD A BUG
You’ve heard of Build a Bear, but what about Build a Bug? In this project, we will focus on Adobe Photoshop and methods of digital collage in order to create and design brand-new species of insects.
Consider the following:
Form, color, texture, and pattern.
What is the name of your insect?
Where does your insect come from?
How does your insect move?
Does is have 6 legs? 20? 100??
Can your insect fly?
So on and so forth.
We will be visiting the MSU Entomology Museum on Wednesday the 14th at 3:30pm. We will meet directly at the museum. There should be parking available, although we can arrange a group walk from Stafford if people would like.
REQUIREMENTS
Adobe Photoshop must be used to create your bugs.
You must use images from the preselected group of images that I provide, although we can discuss using outside images one on one.
You must combine at least 3 separate insect images to create your new bug.
You must completely change the coloring of your insect.
You must name your insect.
