ABOUT:
This project was conducted on
behalf of the Graphic Design program at the Mississippi State University College of Art, Architecture, and Design under instruction of Assistant Professor Aubrey Pohl.
In the past (and present for that matter), this project has been focused on the observation and appreciation of Mississippi's Black History, via the creation of historical research informed poster design. In Spring of 2024, in a collaboration with the Black Prairie Blues Museum, we were asked to turn our focus to a single figure, not only as an important figure of both Mississippi's (and Starkville's) Black History and present, but also as a beacon of community, warmth, love, and positivity.
This year, the students of the ART 3323 Graphic Design 2 course spent the entire span of the project designing posters in honor of Charles "LaLa" Evans and Louise Evans, and the tribute to their love that has forever become known as LaLa Land. LaLa and Louise, and their story, has made a profound impact on all who know them, and we are beyond honored to have this opportunity to help tell that story.
The posters are available for purchase. If you are interested in purchasing a poster, please reach out to Professor Aubrey Pohl with the name of the student designer at

THANKS:
A special thanks to all who came before us, who have helped to pave the way for a new Mississippi, one that is inclusive to every human being regardless of race or creed.
A even more special thanks to LaLa and Louise, who have showed us all how exciting, precious, and lovely life can be. It's all good!
